Our Maryvale Paper Mill maintenance team is seeking an experienced maintenance manager to join us. Reporting to the Mill Maintenance Manager, this is a pivotal leadership role responsible for driving maintenance strategy, reliability, and team performance across critical production areas which will include our pulping plants, boilers and power generation plant, and water treatment facilities ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality operations.
You will lead a dedicated team of both direct and indirect reports, fostering a safe, inclusive, and high-performing culture.
The focus of this role will be to:
- Ensure reliability of plant and assets, supporting production efficiency and output targets, across the Pulp and Recovery group
- Oversee maintenance execution and major asset shutdowns
- Implement process controls and cost improvement strategies with a specific focus on disciplined work order processes and management of critical spares
- Embed operational discipline, process stability and effective utilisation of available assets
- Apply structured problem-solving and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) to rectify quality issues and leverage CMMS tools for sustainable operational gains
- Lead the Pulp and Recovery group maintenance budget, monitor contractor performance, and oversee a robust critical spares strategy
- Drive our "Zero Harm" principles, ensuring all maintenance activities across the Pulp and Recovery group meet Opal’s health & safety, environmental, and regulatory standards

We value:
- A tertiary qualification in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or related)
- Senior maintenance or engineering leadership experience with pulp and paper experience
- Proven experience leading teams in a unionised environment, with the ability to build trust and commitment and foster high levels of engagement
- Exceptional communication skills and the ability to negotiate complex outcomes with diverse stakeholders
- A strong understanding of statutory asset management requirements and a track record of delivering major shutdowns on time and within budget
