The Opal Australian Paper Division is the home of Reflex and is a leading employer in the beautiful Latrobe Valley. With over 850 team members on site, the Maryvale Paper Mill is the largest manufacturing plant in the Opal portfolio.     

We have an exciting opportunity for a Health & Safety Advisor to join our Maryvale Mill team. You’ll be responsible for the implementation of Health and Safety policy, systems and procedures.  This role monitors compliance, ensures recommendations are reviewed and implemented with site management, and provides advice and support in accordance with the relevant workplace Occupational Health and Safety and legislation and Opal standards.

Critical to the role is the ability to provide skills, knowledge and education to the leaders of the business to enable them to improve Health and Safety outcomes and culture.

You will contribute to the success of opal completing the following:

  • Overseeing the implementation and maintenance of the Health and Safety Management System.
  • Providing quality Occupational Health and Safety advice to Management, employees and
  • Contractors.
  • Providing support to frontline management in implementation of safety programs.
  • Facilitating incident investigations.
  • Conducting audits and inspections.
  • Provision of Safety training to Management, employees and contractors.
  • Implementing Behavioral Safety programs.

  • 5 -10 years in a Health & Safety role, preferably within a manufacturing or similar heavy industry environment.
  • Certificate IV in Training & Assessment will be highly regarded.
  • Experience in manufacturing, or a heavy industrial background and/or experience at a Major
  • Hazard Facility or similar.
  • A commitment to the creation and management of a safe working environment.
  • A practical working knowledge of Victorian OH&S Acts, regulations & compliance codes.
  • Eligibility for membership of the Australian Institute of Health & Safety or equivalent.
  • Practical experience in hazard identification and risk assessment processes.
  • Practical experience in conducting safety audits.
  • Proven experience in Incident Investigations.
