With a newly aligned People, Safety & Culture (PSC) function we are  ready to welcome two new Workplace Relations Specialists to our team.   Reporting into the GM, Workplace Relations, this newly created Centre of Excellence contributes to industrial harmony and equity in the workplace by providing strategic advice to our PSC Business Partners and People Leaders on all matters relating to the interpretation of Awards & industrial instruments, employee agreements, policies and general workplace relations matters.   Aligned to either our Northern region (NSW/QLD) or Southern Region (VIC/TAS) you will support your respective regions whilst also contributing to the broader team as required.


This will include;


  • Supporting Opal business units to ensure compliance with industrial instruments, legislation and other employment related regulations.
  • Supporting the PSC teams with guidance and advice relating to investigations, performance management, disciplinary proceedings, non-work related injury management/RTW and employee grievances.  
  • Supporting the Health & Safety teams with Workplace Relations aspects of Workers Compensation claims.
  • Supporting escalated complex Workplace Relations matters and facilitating mediations and grievance resolution processes if required.
  • Contributing to the development and delivery of Workplace Relations related education sessions for our People Leaders.
  • Providing coaching to the PSC teams in the management of people impacts resulting from change.

You are a Workplace/Employee Relations professional who has found your niche having possibly come from a generalist HR role or from an employer/employee organisation.   You are pragmatic and grounded in the way you apply your expertise, understanding the practicalities on the ground whilst still ensuring fair, equitable and proper process.   If you have a passion for creating dynamic and enabled workplaces, we want to hear from you.


 We expect you will bring;


  • Previous experience in a hands-on Workplace Relations/IR/ER capacity within a heavy industrial, manufacturing or related industry.
  • Demonstrated high levels of integrity and emotional intelligence.
  • Demonstrated experience managing and conducting investigations within a large, complex organisation and well developed conciliation and mediation skills.
  • Experience in the development of Workplace Relations related policies, procedures and guidelines and in interpreting and working with Enterprise Agreements and Modern Awards.
  • Demonstrated experience in preparing employer responses to Unfair Dismissal and other Fair Work Commission applications and forms.
  • Ability to understand, relate to and influence diverse stakeholder needs.
  • Tertiary qualification in Business, Human Resource Management, Employment Law or a related discipline (Desirable)
