An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced maintenance fitter to join the Opal Specialty Packaging team at our site in Oakleigh South!
Be the main point of contact for the maintenance operations and play a key role in the continuous improvement of maintenance activities, for our close tight-knit site!
Reporting to the Operations Manager, this role will be responsible for preventative and breakdown maintenance across the site in a safe, cost effective and efficient manner.
The Maintenance Fitter role includes but is not limited to:
- Be the key point of contact for all maintenance related activities at the site
- Carrying out site maintenance and corrective tasks to ensure reliability of plant and equipment
- Utilize relevant data such as machine metrics and conduct root cause analysis’ to plan and prioritize required maintenance
- Planning maintenance activities and maintaining clear communication with relevant stakeholders (such as the production team)
- Play a key role in CAPEX activities/ maintenance projects such as; machinery upgrades & installations
- Following & upholding safe work practices at all times
- Promptly attend breakdowns and resolve operational or technical problems to minimise business interruptions resulting from equipment breakdowns/failures
- Provide trouble-shooting expertise as required
- Perform modification work as well as general facility maintenance
- Provide reasonable support outside of normal working hours as required

For this role we would ideally like you to have:
- Possess a relevant mechanical trade qualification - such as a fitter & turner or mechanical engineering
- Multiple years of experience in maintaining similar machinery such as; digital printers, flexo folder gluers, conveyors, palletisers, rotary & flatbed die cutters, hydraulic and pneumatic systems
- Knowledge & experience in safe working practices/procedures
- Ability to understand technical drawings
- Being dual-trade qualified or possessing a welding certification would be highly regarded (but is not a requirement)
- Reliable, self-motivated and able to work unsupervised in a team environment
- Be a team player, who is trustworthy and positive
