Discover the Opportunity Maintenance Engineer

Opal’s Fibre Research and Technology (R&T) division in Scoresby, is an internationally recognised, fully resourced testing and research facility. R&T works tirelessly to ensure our packaging performs seamlessly at every step. Focusing on the manufacturing, transport, storage, branding and visual appearance of the product.

In this role you will be Responsible for ongoing operational and maintenance activities for R&T building, plants, equipment, and instruments. You will provide technical expertise, support & training in the field of equipment and building maintenance while providing purchasing and procurement support to the greater R&T team.

You will contribute to the success of Opal by:

  • Develop, promote, and maintain safe work practices that contribute to an accident and an injury free workplace.
  • Ensure R&T Site is operating at peak efficiency, that regular plant maintenance is completed & plant issues addressed promptly.
  • Perform audits and coordinate external specialists where needed.
  • Maintain laboratory instrumentation & controlled test room conditions. Liaise with specialists for calibration.
  • Assists with the technical service quality system (including maintenance and calibration of equipment).
  • Update and maintain equipment asset list including IT equipment.
  • Accurately tracks relevant job expenses and ensures external customers are billed according to agreed costs or job expenses.
  • Order lab/site equipment and consumable.  Prepare ERs for laboratory & plant equipment as required.

  • Degree qualification Engineering (Mechanical/Electrical/ Mechatronic) or similar plus 3–5-year experience preferably in the field of lab and instruments maintenance.
  • Experience in controlling maintenance expenditure.
  • Exposure to maintenance on equipment (heaters / air-conditioning /humidifiers /de humidifiers) as very strict conditions must be maintained.
  • Experience managing and hiring contractors to provide specialized site maintenance services.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement capabilities.
