The Opal Australian Paper Division is the home of Reflex and is a leading employer in the beautiful Latrobe Valley. With over 850 team members on site, the Maryvale Paper Mill is the largest manufacturing plant in the Opal portfolio. 

Become an integral part of the onsite Excellence team by leading the Continuous Improvement activities across the site. You will Identify and implement process improvement efforts for the Maryvale business within sound process improvement accepted disciplines and practices.


Reporting to the General Manager for Technical, you will be responsible for:


  • Identify, plan and implement key projects to improve quality, reduce cost, increase productivity and improve cycle time by reducing wasted time, scrap, rework, etc. resulting in significant business improvement, employee and customer satisfaction.
  • Responsible for targeting completion of process improvement projects within a specified time frame while achieving a cost reduction goal.
  • Develops and coaches Operators and all Team members on Lean Manufacturing tools including Six Sigma (DMAIC).
  • Develop and co-ordinate the performance excellence / performance improvement vision and deployment planning as defined by the OAP Lead Team.
  • Achieve buy-in from all decision makers for the successful application of performance excellence / performance improvement. Create team processes for optimising results.
  • Creates and audits processes and standards to ensure sustained improvements.
  • Coordinate communication activities and actively promote the process and results by publicising goals, plans, progress and results.
  • Fully support and comply with all company Health and Safety requirements, including reporting all accidents, near accidents, and hazards.

  • Previous experience in a CI role, coaching LEAN transformations in manufacturing operations.
  • Proven experience in process improvement, leading projects with a record of successful implementation.
  • Strong leadership skills with the proven ability to manage change, develop personnel and strategically plan for continuous improvement. 
  • Strong interpersonal relationship skills. 
  • Strong knowledge of Six Sigma or any other lean initiatives.
