The Opal Australian Paper Division is the home of Reflex and is a leading employer in the beautiful Latrobe Valley. With over 850 team members on site, the Maryvale Paper Mill is the largest manufacturing plant in the Opal portfolio.     


Currently we are seeking an experienced Area Project Manager to lead a team focused on implementing the approved Capital Plan for Power, Recovery and Fibrelines, within scope, on time and within budget. Responsible for identified and implementation of expenditure.


You will contribute to the success of Opal by: 

  • Development & implementation of capital plan spend and forecast for area responsibility.
  • Receipt of capital requests (RFS), assist customers with submissions.
  • Implementation of approved projects, safely, within environmental requirements, delivery of specified outcome, on budget, and on time.
  • Handover of projects complete with supporting documentation.
  • Manage project resources allocated by Engineering Manager / Discipline Leads.
  • Support and use of project department policies & procedures using mill wide OMS.
  • Provide regular reports on project progress and hold regular liaison meetings with GM fibre (or delegates) to ensure good communication.
  • Monitor all proposed scope changes and ensure approval from relevant parties.
  • Provide leadership to team for implementation of capital plan.

  • A solid understanding of the principles underpinning project management;
  • Experience in either Mechanical or Electrical engineering disciplines, with postgraduate qualifications highly regarded or experience in either Mechanical or Electrical trade qualifications highly regarded 
  • Formal project management training would be advantageous.
  • Substantial and demonstrated experience in the Pulp & Paper Industry.
  • Continuous improvement mind-set
  • Strong Safety focus.
